Exercise Right Month in May 2025

This year, ESSA (Exercise & Sports Science Australia) is extending Exercise Right Week into a full month during May with movement, motivation, and community engagement.

This year’s theme ‘Who Moves You?’ invites Australians to reflect on the people and influences that inspire them to stay active. Whether it’s family, friends, or accredited exercise professionals, the campaign aims to highlight the positive motivators behind intentional exercise.

Get Involved

There are several ways to participate in Exercise Right Month and promote the benefits of movement, and especially walking, running, rolling and strolling:

  1. Host an event
  2. Get your workplace involved
  3. Attend a local event or join an existing group
  4. Spread the word.

Did you know?

  • Less than 50% of Australians consistently meet the physical activity guidelines.
  • Regular exercise is proven to reduce the likelihood of anxiety and depression occurrence by 25%.
  • Consistent structured exercise provides a 20-25% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Why not Step into Nature during Exercise Right Month

With over one-third of Australian adults not meeting the daily physical activity guidelines, 10,000 Steps are developing a toolkit to encourage more Queenslanders to reap the benefits of walking and physical activity in natural environments.

Our good friends at 10,000 Steps are adding another new toolkit to their suite of resources supporting workplaces, councils and communities to get more movement into their daily routine. The theme is Step into Nature and it’s all about getting out and exploring your local neighbourhoods, parks, trails, beaches and creeks.
