11 Rockhampton schools to receive safety upgrades

We’re thrilled to see that 11 schools across the Rockhampton Region will benefit from $2.7 million in funding from the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP). The funds will deliver vital safety improvements, including intersection modifications, new footpaths, and enhanced pedestrian facilities.

The STIP program has already made a significant impact in the region. Since 2018, 20 schools have received funding, with this latest round adding a further 11 schools to the program. Eight projects are scheduled for completion by the end of the 2023/24 financial year.

Improving safety around the school gate will make a significant and positive change to the safety of children walking, riding and scooting to school. Queensland Walks is very keen to see the Queensland Government funding of the STIP program continue, and ensure that road safety elements, like Raised Priority Crossings, footpaths, kerb ramps and more walk-friendly infrastructure projects are funded. Let’s keep our kids safe! Congratulations Rocky Council.
