Top tips for walking meetings

A walking meeting is a meeting that takes place during a walk, rather than sitting in an office, meeting room or coffee shop. Research has shown it is one of the cheapest ways to achieve increases in creativity and engagement between colleagues. Here are some tips for you to get the most of out your walking meeting:

  • Choose your meeting well – not everyone may be able to walk so look for meetings where everyone is physically able to participate and where the meeting may need to consult with colleagues, explore options or generate new ideas.
  • Give your colleagues some notice – they may want to wear more comfortable shoes or clothes that day.
  • Keep numbers down – to talk and listen effectively, keeps numbers down to a maximum of three participants.
  • Finish with a sit down – this may be useful to record outcomes or even enjoy a coffee.
