We represent walking for all Queenslanders

Queensland Walks Month in August: 'Walk My Queensland'

Queensland Walks Month is a free, online celebration of walking, running, rolling and strolling across all parts of Queensland. Queensland Walks Month aims to improve the walkability of our beautiful state through conversations, and knowledge-sharing. More people walking in Queensland is good for everyone.

Walk, run, roll or stroll anywhere in Queensland during August and share your walking experiences, share your photos and reels or engage in online discussions to help improve the ‘walkability’ of your neighbourhood and your favourite walk spaces.

Elements of a walkable place

There are nine elements to an inclusive and walkable place. Each are interconnected and play a vital role in encouraging walking as a convenient and appealing choice for transport, exercise, recreation and social connection.

Step Into Nature with 10,000 Steps

Walking 10,000 steps a day is a simple way to improve both physical and mental well-being, and this year’s focus encourages people to swap the treadmill for a local park, bush trail, or beach walk.

This isn’t just about exercise—it’s about embracing the outdoors, slowing down, and making small changes that add up to a healthier lifestyle. Lace up your shoes, get outside, and start stepping!

Safe cities, safe streets

Did you know….?

  • 1 in 2 women don’t feel safe walking at night
  • Women and girls participate less due to the absence of safe spaces

Explore the safety of your streets, neighbourhoods, towns and cities with the Safe Cities I Safe Streets toolkit.
