We represent walking for all Queenslanders

Queensland Prevention Symposium 2024

The 2024 Queensland Prevention Symposium provided a plethora of information and opportunities for Queensland Walks on the 3rd and 4th of September. Walking for health and well-being, and the need for improved infrastructure for walking was high on the agenda of many of the featured speakers.

Queensland Walks’, Anna Campbell, presented on Sun Safe People and Places, alongside Sharyn Chin-Fat of the Cancer Council Queensland, Mary-Anne Quilter at CheckUp, Cathie Gillan and Jodie Antrobus from Queensland Health. Queensland is the skin cancer capital of the world and the need for organisations to collaborate and advocate together to create sun-safe environments and shade for walkable places was highlighted and supported by all speakers.

Thank you to 10,000 steps, who generously shared their booth with Queensland Walks. The opportunity to speak with many health organisations, local government representatives and community teams was an ideal chance to speak about collaborative opportunities and promote our current projects including Safe Cities | Safe Streets, weWALK and WALKshops. Over a hundred “Walk My Street” checklists were given out to people from across Queensland.

Queensland Walks extends a warm thank you to Health and Well-being Queensland and Queensland Government for a professional and thought provoking two days.
