There are many groups in Queensland and Australia that encourage and coordinate people to walk (and run) together and alone, for health and pleasure.
10,000 Steps is a free walking program run by Central Queensland University (CQU) since 2001. The aim is to encourage people to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps every day. There are monthly challenges, team tournaments, a mobile app and more.
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest free walking community.
Over the past 21 years more than 80,000 Australians have participated in the walking program. Heart Foundation Walking is part of a broader Heart Foundation goal to encourage and support walking and physical activity to build the heart health of Australia. You can join a group, create a personal walking plan and access free resources to get walking.

Parkrun is a positive, welcoming and inclusive experience where there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. Saturday morning events are 5k and take place in parks and open spaces. On Sunday mornings, there are 2k junior parkruns for children aged four to 14.
