On the 31^st of October as the day turns to afternoon, a hush falls, and all over Queensland unrecognisable creatures begin leaving their homes. They’re searching for something, tummies rumbling they terrorise their neighbourhoods. But what could it be? Suddenly a doorbell rings, then another, followed by a knock, up and down the street they march. Beware! Those who do not answer are in for a fright for these creatures are in search one thing and one thing only, a trick or a treat!

It’s that time of year again! Spooky season and Halloween is such a fun time to go walking around your neighbourhood trick  or treating. We’re all for more walking, and encouraging all the little people to walk more, walk often, and for little people to drag their family members and friends out and about. If something encourages walking, rolling and strolling – we’re all for it! 

In the lead up to the day there are a few important things to think about. What are you going to wear? What are you going to carry all your treats in? And which route walking route will you choose?

We encourage you to embrace a low-plastic, walking-fantastic evening. Pick a tote bag, a shopping bag, a pillowcase or even a pumpkin, the options are endless. Select a location close to your home, reduce the need to drive, and encourage other families to leave their car at home too.

Halloween provides an opportunity for every zombie, ghost, fairy or pirate to consider how walkable their neighbourhood is. Every Halloween trick or treaters walk all around their local area and it’s important that the area is safe, accessible and pedestrian friendly. So, this year remember that if you see a spooky crack in the footpath, an unsafe crossing, or a hauntingly dark street it’s important to inform your local council or send it in through the Snap Send Solve App and don’t forget to have some skele-fun as you creep it real this Halloween.
