Walking, rolling and strolling is fundamental to everyone’s lives. That’s why we’ve been excited to see so many new walk-friendly places opened, and new walking-friendly policy released.
Over the Christmas and New Year period take a moment to celebrate the simple joys of walking, rolling or strolling. Whilst walking, we encourage you to have a go at our Walk My Street checklist – how does your street rate on walkability? The purpose of the Walk My Street is twofold, your input provides information on the locations that need work and indicates the streets that are more walkable.
I urge everyone to drive with care and slow down and be aware of people walking and riding – especially during this busy season. Every person walking and riding deserves to arrive safely. Patience and attentiveness on the road can make a world of difference in ensuring everyone enjoys their journey.
Finally, my heartfelt thanks go out to all who have championed walking advocacy here in Queensland and across Australia, especially our Alliance, organisations and government departments. Your efforts to make our streets safer and our Active Transport networks more inclusive are creating better environments. Together, we’ve taken significant steps—both literally and figuratively—toward healthier, more connected communities.
Let’s make walking in Queensland the number one choice for recreation and transport.
Yours in health and walking,
Anna Campbell.
