Queensland Walks announces new President, Greg Vann.
We are pleased to announce that Queensland Walks board member Greg Vann has accepted the nomination to lead Queensland Walks in the role of President.
Queensland Walks thanks incumbent board member and former President Angela O’Dea (formerly Wright) for her tireless efforts since Michelle Wade vacated the President role in 2022.
Angela has confidently led Queensland Walks through a new funding agreement and grant opportunities, governance and policy development, organisational rebranding, a refreshed website and the festive celebration of 10 years of the Queensland Walks as an advocacy and peak organisation. Board, members, staff and friends of Queensland Walks sincerely thank Angela O’Dea for her passion and leadership of Queensland Walks. We are grateful to have her continued guidance as a general board member.
Greg Vann is a Director, Brisbane Ethos Urban, qualified in planning and economics and has been at the forefront of planning in Queensland for nearly 40 years. He is one of Australia’s best known, respected and widely experienced planners. Greg’s many leadership positions include life fellow and former State President of the Planning Institute of Australia, project director of the new SEQ Regional Plan, chair of the State’s Transit Oriented Development Taskforce and on various government and university advisory groups. He has worked in many communities throughout Queensland and has long been a prominent voice for walkability in our communities. Greg has been a champion of the annual Jane’s Walk event bringing together Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) / Women in Planning / Young Planners and Queensland Walks.
Greg said “I am delighted to take on this position to build on the excellent foundations provided by my predecessors, Angela O’Dea and Michelle Wade, who both contributed so much to making Queensland Walks the mature, well balanced organisation it is today. I thank them and look forward to working with our board, staff and stakeholders to embed walking as a foundation of our community health, well being and liveability.”
Outgoing President, Angela O’Dea says “I would like to thank the management committee for their dedication to the organisation’s strategic intent to improve walking conditions and opportunities for all Queenslanders and for their commitment to ensuring best practice governance.” She says that it is has been an honour to work alongside such an esteemed board.
