International White Cane Day: Sunday 15 October 2023

Help Guide Dogs celebrate International White Cane Day 2023

International White Cane Day (IWCD) is just around the corner and this year Guide Dogs are raising awareness at Southbank in Brisbane City.

On Sunday 15 October, Guide Dogs will set up camp along the Clem Jones promenade at Southbank, offering people an opportunity to experience a blindfolded walk with a White Cane.

There will be giveaways and lots of information on hand, not to mention our trusty Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Jeremy Hill, will be on deck to help guide those willing to give a blindfolded walk a go!

“IWCD aims to raise awareness of the importance of the White Cane and how it aids the mobility and independence of a person with low vision or blindness,” said Jeremy.

“For the majority of our Clients, a White Cane is the first mobility aid they will probably learn how to use and is an international symbol of vision impairment to the public,” he said.

If you live locally to Brisbane, we encourage you to head to Southbank on 15 October between 9am and 12pm and pop by the Guide Dogs marquee to say hello!
