We represent walking for all Queenslanders

Jane’s Walk 2025

In 1961, urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs release a book called The Death and Life of Great American Cities. It championed walkable, community-oriented neighbourhoods and included discussions around heritage preservation, green spaces, and urban development.

The book had a major impact on people’s interested in urban planning and, in 2007, it inspired a group of New Yorkers to create Jane’s Walk, a movement of free, citizen-led walking tours that has since expanded globally.

This year we are proud to be partnering with the Planning Institute of Australia, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and the Australian Institute of Architects.

Host a Jane's Walk event

In 2024,  Queensland Walks and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) QLD hosted a walk in the city of Logan, celebrating some of the placemaking design and investment in their region. Previous walks have included Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.

In 2025, we want you to get involved. We’ve created a simple toolkit to explain the steps to hosting your own Jane’s Walk, where you can bring people together to discuss the future off our cities.

Every year, thousands of Walk Leaders around the world help make their cities stronger by hosting walking conversations that connect people, start dialogues, and inspire action.

Queensland Walks and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) have developed a toolkit to help you host a Jane’s Walk in Queensland. It contains everything you need to start a walk and a conversation around how we design our neighbourhoods.
