Green bridge no. 7 (or is it 8, think I’ve lost count!).
Got along today (dodging the heavy rain showers) to check out Brisbane’s newest and biggest green bridge connecting Kangaroo Point to downtown.
It is impressive. For a start, it’s huge as it crosses the Brisbane River on a wide reach, and has some changes in direction to deal with its landing points at either end. It is also quite striking through its huge central tower and associated supporting cables.
It is also wide enough for separated cycle and walk ways, and the walking side is fully roofed, so important in a climate often very hot or raining hard.

And it has a number of viewing point with sweeping city and river views, lots of information about the indigenous and European history of its setting, and connects pretty well at either landing points.
And there’s also a restaurant and cafe nearly finished at the city side where there is also a counter for walkers, bikes AND scooters clocking up some serious numbers.
All in all, quite something as Brisbane continues to deliver great walking and cycling etc connections across its great asset, the river which meanders through the city and makes cross town trips by those modes otherwise very circuitous.
I continue to be surprised that this city doesn’t get more international recognition for its green bridges, but anyhoo, this one is a cracker!
